Carnival of Genealogy–Swimsuits
I bought this tintype at a recent Boston area photo show. Just imagine going to the beach in this outfit! She’s the epitome of modesty in a suit that covers her from the bathing hat on her head to the stockings on her legs. The presence of the “fake” rock and the beach scene in the painted backdrop suggest that she posed at a seaside studio.

It looks like misery. But on the bright side, at least they weren’t likely to develop skin cancer!
What a terrific picture! Love, love, love the swimsuit! I cannot imagine swimming in it though, or even wading in it for that matter. I’ll bet it was really colorful though. Thanks for sharing in the COG, Maureen!
I would have been dragged down to the bottom of the sea trying to swim in that outfit.
Oh, my! I should think it would be incredibly hard to swim in a “suit” like that, let alone play in the water closer to the shore. Surely she was dragged down by the weight of all those layers! Fun photograph, though. Thanks for sharing.
I love it! My favorite pictures are the ones that really hearken back to a different era, and boy does that look like a different era!
